Scope of Work: Physical Site Survey

Our IT site survey and network site survey are performed during normal business hours. We follow a structured site survey checklist and deliver a site survey report for networking and design decisions.

Location and Documentation

• DMARC, MDF, IDF and equipment

  Locate and document DMARC, MDF, IDF, network equipment locations and existing Access Points.

• Environment and photography

  Record and photograph the environment with high-definition photos, including all existing equipment.

• In-scope cabling

  Identify in-scope cabling from customer-provided information: interconnectivity between buildings, floors, MDF, IDF and the site cabling plant.

• Fiber plant information

  Document source MDF and destination IDF, fiber type, core count, fiber grade, estimated distance (ft), total and spare fiber, source and destination connector types, and fiber cabling diagram.

• Cable pathway assessment

  Assess pathways for obstructions, penetrations, fire stopping, existing or clear path, lift requirements, and adequacy of backboard and conduit for new cabling.

• Network infrastructure site survey checklist

  Structured checklist coverage for location, cabling and pathway as part of the site survey template and site survey report.

Environmental and Power Assessment

• PDU and outlets

  Available PDU and outlets at the rack, type of outlet connections, and isolated outlets at the rack.

• Grounding

  Grounding at the rack.

• Room conditions

  General room temperature (recorded in report, no measuring device), location of HVAC registers, outlets or returns.

• UPS and backup

  Available UPS and capacity, backup generators and capacity (may require customer/PM collaboration).

• Breakers

  Breakers and capacity for each room (may require customer/PM collaboration).

• Power summary for site survey report

  Power and environmental summary captured in the IT site survey report and site audit deliverables.

Floor, Wall and Rack Space Assessment

• Rack layout

  Record equipment layout in racks, provide rack elevation and equipment location.

• Backboard and rack space

  Available backboard space; available and used rack space in Rack Units.

• Rack elevation

  Rack elevation and equipment location documented for the site survey report.

• Device inventory

  Device type (e.g. Switch, Router, Patch Panel), OEM (e.g. Cisco, Aruba, Panduit), serial numbers, rack unit position, number of RUs used, and available ports on device.

• Device type and OEM

  Document device type and OEM per rack for the network site survey checklist and site audit.

• Ports and RU usage

  Available ports on each device and number of Rack Units used, for capacity planning in the site survey report.

Additional Assessments

• General concerns

  Any physically observable causes for concern.

• Installation requirements

  Whether a lift will be required for any installations.

• Cabling assessment

  Assessment of cabling (e.g. substandard Cat3) for both AP cable runs and patch cables.

• Power for WAPs

  Assessment of power for Wireless Access Points (WAPs) at anticipated placement locations.
